Die Erforschung der kulturellen Kontexte der Bibel hat neue Wege
eröffnet, biblische Texte als kulturelle Artefakte und Zeugnisse für
bestimmte Orte, Zeiten und Umstände zu lesen und zu verstehen. Ziel
der Reihe ist es, neueste Forschungsergebnisse aus den Bereichen
Kultur – einschließlich Sozialwissenschaften, Wissenschaft,
Wirtschaft, Recht und Literatur – sowie hermeneutische Ansätze zur
Produktion und Rezeption der Bibel als Kulturtext zu
veröffentlichen. Die Reihe konzentriert sich überwiegend auf Monographien, ist aber auch offen für inter- und transdisziplinäre wissenschaftliche Sammelbände über die Texte und Zusammenhänge einzelner biblischer Bücher, darunter Werke aus Ästhetik, Kunst und Poesie. Vol 15 Hermeneutical Perspectives on Biblical and Modern Trauma Narratives Trauma is a brief term for a complex phenomenon, a linguistic vessel for experiences that can hardly be put into speech. Its terminological vagueness has made the concept of Trauma a permanent guest in discourses beyond the clinical context. This volume offers a scholarly reflection to the hermeneutical foundations of the concept of Trauma: What do we mean by it? What different avenues of comprehension are open, given our varying cultural and linguistic backgrounds? And are we aware that understanding itself can be seen as an attempt to avoid Trauma’s gravity? These questions were discussed during the DFG funded international interdisciplinary conference “Readings of Trauma”, which took place in Marburg in April 2022 and brought together scholars from Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, the USA and South Africa to compare their hermeneutical perspectives on Biblical and Modern Trauma Narratives through the lenses of theology, literature, psychology, and psychoanalysis. |

Vol 13 An Indirect Translation Approach to the Relationship of LXX-Isaiah to Peshitta-Isaiah Using the model of indirect translation from modern translation studies, this monograph argues that the Septuagint translation of Isaiah played little to no role in the translation of the Peshi ta of Isaiah.Since the mid-to-late nineteenth century, many scholars have argued that the translator of the Syriac Peshi ta of Isaiah (200 CE) frequently consulted and/or translated the Greek Septuagint (140 BCE) at certain points during the process of translation (e.g., when encountering difficult lexis in their Hebrew source text). However, the study of this translational phenomenon has lacked methodological control. Applying indirect translation theory and methodology from modern translation studies to the Peshi ta of Isaiah, this book argues that where the Peshi ta of Isaiah and Septuagint of Isaiah agree (against their common Hebrew source in chapters 1-39), the "agreement" is almost always due to common translation technique, rather than direct influence from the older Greek text. Vol 12 Das Babylonische Exil als Übergangsprozess im Ezechielbuch Das Ezechielbuch verarbeitet die Katastrophe des Babylonischen Exils auf einzigartige Weise: Es zieht Symbolik von Übergangsriten (rites de passage) heran, um das Exil als notwendige Phase eines Prozesses darzustellen, der Israel und die Lesenden verändert.Über das ganze Ezechielbuch hinweg werden Räume und Bewegungen beschrieben. Sie lassen sich analog zu Symbolen in Übergangsritualen verstehen, wie sie von A. van Gennep und V. W. Turner beschrieben wurden. Israel hatte sich von JHWH entfernt. Um wieder in einen Status als Gottesvolk geführt werden zu können, muss ein dreistufiger Prozess durchlaufen werden, der die räumliche Entfernung aus Jerusalem und die Rückkehr beinhaltet. Die mittlere, liminale Phase, in der allein Israel erneuert werden kann, entspricht dem Exil. Beim Lesen des Ezechielbuches kann der Prozess performativ mitvollzogen werden, so dass auch die Lesenden transformiert werden.Die Untersuchung verbindet alttestamentliche Wissenschaft mit Raum- und Ritualtheorien. Vol 9 Die Eroberung Jerusalems durch die Babylonier 587 v.u.Z. und ihre Folgen – insbesondere das babylonische Exil – gelten allgemein als Zäsur in der Geschichte Israels. Zahlreiche biblische Texte beziehen sich auf dieses Ereignis. Das vorliegende Buch zeigt, dass sich die Erzählung der babylonischen Eroberung Jerusalems und ihrer Folgen erst im Laufe der Zeit als Leidensnarrativ in der überlieferten Form herausgebildet hat. Dieser Prozess, in dem ein gefestigtes Bild dieser Ereignisse und ihrer Bedeutung entsteht, lässt sich als Etablierung eines kulturellen Traumas beschreiben. Die letztlich dominante Trauma-Erzählung bewahrt nicht die Erinnerung der unmittelbaren (emotionalen) Auswirkung der Ereignisse. Vielmehr lässt sich zeigen, dass wesentliche Elemente der Trauma-Erzählung wie die Deportation der Bevölkerung und die Zerstörung des Tempels erst in jüngeren biblischen Texten zentral werden.
